Daniel Inouye: Jackal of the Day (Year, decade, century)

On April 21, 1945, Inouye was grievously wounded while leading an assault on a heavily-defended ridge near San Terenzo in Tuscany, Italy called Colle Musatello. The ridge served as a strongpoint along the strip of German fortifications known as the Gothic Line, which represented the last and most unyielding line of German defensive works in Italy. As he led his platoon in a flanking maneuver, three German machine guns opened fire from covered positions just 40 yards away, pinning his men to the ground. Inouye stood up to attack and was shot in the stomach; ignoring his wound, he proceeded to attack and destroy the first machine gun nest with hand grenades and fire from his Thompson submachine gun. After being informed of the severity of his wound by his platoon sergeant, he refused treatment and rallied his men for an attack on the second machine gun position, which he also successfully destroyed before collapsing from blood loss.

As his squad distracted the third machine gunner, Inouye crawled toward the final bunker, eventually drawing within 10 yards. As he raised himself up and cocked his arm to throw his last grenade into the fighting position, a German inside the bunker fired a rifle grenade that struck him on the right elbow, severing most of his arm and leaving his own primed grenade reflexively "clenched in a fist that suddenly didn't belong to me anymore".[10] Inouye's horrified soldiers moved to his aid, but he shouted for them to keep back out of fear his severed fist would involuntarily relax and drop the grenade. As the German inside the bunker reloaded his rifle, Inouye pried the live grenade from his useless right hand and transferred it to his left. As the German aimed his rifle to finish him off, Inouye tossed the grenade off-hand into the bunker and destroyed it. He stumbled to his feet and continued forward, silencing the last German resistance with a one-handed burst from his Thompson before being wounded in the leg and tumbling unconscious to the bottom of the ridge. When he awoke to see the concerned men of his platoon hovering over him, his only comment before being carried away was to gruffly order them to return to their positions, since, as he pointed out, "nobody called off the war!"[11]

Fhilosophy Friday

“When things are going well, something will go wrong. When things just can't get any worse, they will. Anytime things appear to be going better, you have overlooked something.”
You can know the name of a bird in all the languages of the world, but when you're finished, you'll know absolutely nothing whatever about the bird... So let's look at the bird and see what it's doing - that's what counts. I learned very early the difference between knowing the name of something and knowing something.
I have approximate answers and possible beliefs in different degrees of certainty about different things, but I'm not absolutely sure of anything, and of many things I don't know anything about, but I don't have to know an answer. I don't feel frightened by not knowing things, by being lost in the mysterious universe without having any purpose which is the way it really is as far as I can tell possibly. It doesn't frighten me.
And on a personal note BHMF cares about all you jackals and wants to make sure everyone is properly nutriousified, so don't forget to drink a big glass of orange juice, each and every glorious Jackal morning.

Friday Hottie: Abby Martin

In honor of bhmf's little blessing, I decided to bring back the Friday Hottie. This is one spicy tamale, but she ain't afraid to tackle the big issues either. She's got a big, sexy brain, which is precisely what this Fabio-looking douchebag is thinking while he tells her about not showering at an "occupy" movement.

Jackal Update?: Little bhmf

Yo, bhmf. Thanks for the Alan Watts brain food. What's got you on your philosophical tip? Did you have that little jackal or what?

Fhilosophy Friday

Alan Watts drops knowledge ninja style: “For there is a growing apprehension that existence is a rat-race in a trap: living organisms, including people, are merely tubes which put things in at one end and let them out at the other, which both keeps them doing it and in the long run wears them out. So to keep the farce going, the tubes find ways of making new tubes, which also put things in at one end and let them out at the other. At the input end they even develop ganglia of nerves called brains, with eyes and ears, so that they can more easily scrounge around for things to swallow. As and when they get enough to eat, they use up their surplus energy by wiggling in complicated patterns, making all sorts of noises by blowing air in and out of the input hole, and gathering together in groups to fight with other groups. In time, the tubes grow such an abundance of attached appliances that they are hardly recognizable as mere tubes, and they manage to do this in a staggering variety of forms. There is a vague rule not to eat tubes of your own form, but in general there is serious competition as to who is going to be the top type of tube. All this seems marvelously futile, and yet, when you begin to think about it, it begins to be more marvelous than futile. Indeed, it seems extremely odd.”
“You have seen that the universe is at root a magical illusion and a fabulous game, and that there is no separate "you" to get something out of it, as if life were a bank to be robbed. The only real "you" is the one that comes and goes, manifests and withdraws itself eternally in and as every conscious being. For "you" is the universe looking at itself from billions of points of view, points that come and go so that the vision is forever new.”

KFTC: Presidential Debates

I can't wait to see who brings the 'X-Factor' in tonight's contest. One man will be the 'American Idol' when this is all said and done. It sure has been an 'Amazing Race' up to this point. One issue of contest will be terror on the homeland and the 'Fear Factor' of Americans in the 21st Century. I'm quite certain if the 'Price is Right', one of these men will make a strong bid to spend the next four years in the 'West Wing'. Oh, if only we had a read on these two jokers before this epitome of democratic discourse!

GCOTD: Wikipedia

Did you know Wikipedia is trying to make this guy disappear? Have you ever read anything about him, bhmf?

ESPN Sucks

Someone tell me why this fat fuck gets any job, much less a job on a sports network. Not only is he a gigantic fat ass, with no athletic experience or expertise, he is not funny. This reminds me of a microcosm of American politics. The fact that he can and does helps me understand how Mitt Romney is remotely a possibility for the next president of the United States of America.

Keeping It Jackal: Buck Showalter

"Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together." - Vincent van Gogh

Once upon a time the New York Yankees were in need of a manager. They thought Buck would come back to their ass castle for an insane amount of money just like every other douchebag they buy a set of pinstripes for. Little did they know they were dealing with a man of integrity and hard work, the cornerstones of any successful franchise. They wanted more of the same, Buck was hoping for a challenge. Enter the Woerioles, Major League Baseball's retarded, red-headed, pimple/freckle-faced fat kid in the cellar. After failing to reach the 70-win plateau a season ago and 15 years below .500, the bad birds of Baltimore are bound for the Bronx in a series tied at a game a piece. Showalter has yet to flinch. This improbable turn of events is probably exactly what he envisioned in his big beautiful brain. Let me get some magic, hon.

???Questions you must ask???

How come it still snows and gets cold if Global warming is true?
This picture was taken this morning. Seven inches of Mother Natures pure white cocaine. BHMF says bring it on. BHMF loves snow. BHMF doesn't pray, except perhaps when it comes to the weather. He prays to the weather gods. And George Carlin's Sun God is the supreme being in that aspect. He is God almighty, and don't you forget it.

Keeping It Jackal: Baltimore Ravens

If you like sports stories, Sunday night's game against Queen Brady's(28-41, 335 yds 1 TD) Patriots had a ton of them. Joe Flacco was 28 of 39 for 382 yds and 3 TDs. Torrey Smith, who lost his little brother Saturday, caught 6 balls for 127 yds and 2 TDs. Down two scores with four minutes to go and come out on top. This is my football team. Here's hoping these jackals get some hardware, because they already play like champions. It's time.

Friday Hotties: The Akra Twins

This whole post needs a disclaimer that I really don't like anything about the Washington Nationals. I'm talking logo, stadium, fans, the NL itself, the works, everything about it is GAF. That said, Kristina Akra is definitely my favorite thing and in fact the only thing that brings me any sort of enjoyment. It should be noted that her twin sister is arguably hotter than she is. Suffice to say, it must have really sucked for their dad when they blossomed into righteous sideline sports reporters. Holy crap, watch out for foul balls. Here's hoping Kristina can get a real job instead of peddling some bullshit on Peter Angelos' shit network.

Jesus Was Gettin' Some

Professor Karen L. King is one busted bitch. She might be married, but if she is, you best believe her husband doesn't show her the cable bill and probably deletes a fair amount of internet history. But Prof. King does know some shit about history. This jackal's question is why would the church want anyone to think Jesus was celibate? Why wouldn't they include the stories of a female disciple? Women are fucking awesome. Right?

Friday Hottie: Rosanna Davison

All the way, half way, BMR would not let this lassie out of his sights. Good work, Ireland!

I would totally be down to post more photos, but a lot of them have nipples a blazing, like this one...

9/11

Read these six short paragraphs please: http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/332051 Please read the article before you continue. I haven't watched the video yet. I tried to watch it, but it was only offered free until Sept 4th so it looks like I was a few days late. But I will try more in a little bit to find it and watch it. I hope everyone else can do the same. Just a few points I would like to make concerning the article linked to above. Please indulge me. 1.) "The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the government agency charged with the investigation, did not provide any data -- no measurements or estimates -- of the mass or energy that would be required to bring down the buildings in about ten seconds. Normally a scientific report would present all the data that is used to construct a theory. The omission of data is a red flag to anyone familiar with scientific procedure." My point --- no kidding no data, who would have thunk it? Scientific procedure --- whats that? I can't be bothered with such trivial details. 2.) "According to the experts appearing in Explosive Evidence, the scientific community did reject the reports immediately, but it has taken a very long time for this message to reach the public." My point --- Not surprising in the least that it has taken a very long time. It has been suppressed and for obvious reasons. The public still hasn't got the message regarding JFK, the Gulf of Tonkin incident, Operation Northwoods, etc, etc right on down the line and how many years has it been since all those fun memories were made??? 3.) "While most people have probably heard that a scientific investigation has been conducted and that the building collapses were explained, few have probably looked at the NIST reports themselves. Links to the NIST reports can be found in the above mentioned Digital Journal article. NIST provides no data whatsoever on the actual collapse sequence itself." My point --- Few people have looked at the NIST reports? Again, not surprising. That takes effort and I clearly have more important things to do. LIke make some tweets about my new haircut. No data on the collapse sequence eh? Minor details I suppose. Easy to overlook. 4.) "The new attention to the issue could be significant for the U.S. presidential election." My point --- While I agree wholeheartedly with the content and message of this article this one line I tend to disagree with. Reality knocking........if (and this is a mighty big if) it does bring new attention to the issue then the public's attention will be quickly diverted back to Mitt Romney's tax returns and Obama's birth certificate. Gotta focus on the important things right? Now if you have read this far you might have noticed that I quoted a large portion of the original article in my attempt to make my ideas known. Soooooo......if you read the entire six paragraph article like I requested before you read over my points/comments and then read all my soapbox rantings then you almost read the article twice. Hopefully you did and hopefully reading it twice allowed the message to sink in. But if perhaps it did not do the trick then I ask one last thing of you. Please watch this short youtube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxiQmtVGgcQ Yours Truly
