Carbon Footprint Calculator - What's My Carbon Footprint ?

Carbon Footprint Calculator - What's My Carbon Footprint ?

Not bad, BD2. I gave y'all the benefit of the doubt and didn't calculate Mrs. BD2's car, but who gives a rat's ass?

  1. trust me a 5.9L V8 doesn't have shit on a power plant. And we have a ton of them. And they are spewing out much more carbon/NOX/SO2 and other bad shit than a fleet of Durangos could even wish for. That guilt far outweighs the SUV guilt.

    Bring on the road trip!

  2. Our family was at 54 tons CO2/year. I was amazed at how much of that (about 40%) came from air travel we've done for work in the last year. It helps that we're vegetarian and don't drive a lot (and live in an apartment, which hopefully won't be the case for too much longer).

  3. I'm not sure about that BD2 - after all, a power plant is serving hundreds of thousands or millions of people, whereas your Durango is serving 1-3. So I think the correct question is whether hundreds of thousands or millions of 5.9L V8s would compare with a power plant. This report says 41% of U.S. C02 emissions come from electric power while 33% come from transportation. And of course the transportation figure includes people who don't drive Durangos. So it's probably close.

With that said, I don't really begrudge you owning the Durango - it can be a really fun vehicle, and I can say that I had fun in it myself. I think the real question is why you would use an expensive, 12 MPG vehicle for commuting purposes. I hope your commute isn't long; if it is, I can't imagine that it wouldn't be economical for you to get a cheap sedan for every day use.

  5. Do you all notice its not called "Global Warming" all of a sudden?

Now after hackers proved that it was a lie (www.climategate.com, http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704342404574576683216723794.html
    )

it's called "climate change" all of a sudden? And the state-controlled liberal media doesn't say anything about it? Al Gore still needs to push his propaganda on your children, I guess.

The earth has been through a lot more shit than we humans have/can throw at it, it will be fine. Stop buying Toyota death cars and buy a Mercan V8 truck and watch your pubes grow.

  6. BD2, see you're not alone. Surely OBD has the right idea. Head, the hippies and me are all out of room on our sinking ship.

  7. Yes RTB, that sounds very plausible, except that the scientific authority on the subject is and always has been called the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Oh, and the term "climate change" was originally invented by Republicans because they thought it sounded less scary to the public than "global warming".

I'll address your claim that "hackers proved that global warming was a lie" when you provide evidence to back it up. A generic conspiracy theory website and a Wall Street Journal editorial that doesn't at all address what you claim don't count. Everything I've read about the CRU emails was remarkably unpersuasive for the amount of noise the Drudge/Fox News/Rush troika has generated about them.

Oh, and I'd appreciate it if you could explain to me how such a conspiracy is remotely possible. I get what would be in it for Al Gore; I don't get what would motivate scientists in Maine who spend their whole careers measuring and analyzing the carbon composition of oysters shells.

  8. Turns out you are both right climate change/global warming is real Head and BMR are fighting the good fight and I do sympathize with your side, but 'Merican V8s do make your pubes grow. So figure out a way to make an 'Merican V8 with Zero carbon footprint and I will sell mine for an eco-friendly option post haste.

    Bring on the Biodiesels!!!

  9. Biodiesel is not an effective combatant, BD2, because agriculture is under increased pressure because of drought/deforestation/i.e. "warming/change" and using our grain harvest for fuel is not exactly the remedy for our ills. Any other ideas?

We'll probably die right around the time earth gets really shitty/uninhabitable to live on, but the Little Jackal generation (Baby Jackie, mini-Head, Lil' KOTJ) might be "catching and frying bigger fish" so to speak. This is not an attempt to infuse more Irish Catholic guilt symptoms, just stating facts.

  10. ...but that guilt is a bitch when it creeps up on you all sneaky like.

  11. biodiesel using used vegetable oil or other already processed sources is feasible. You are thinking of ethanol which is produced from corn. It sucks as fuel, more polluting and does pose a farming issue because it would be competing with food farms.

There has to be a lot of different choices this is not a simple one stop fix problem though.

  12. Ah, right you are. Just making sure you're up to snuff. The debate seems to have turned on you and the OBD a little bit. I know Senor Camo Cans was claiming healthcare reform was our(the hippies) "sinking ship", but now I'm getting the sense that you and the gentleman who claims Ol' Dirty Bastard/Big Baby Jesus' song "Dog Shit" is his 'theme song' are clinging to large American engines on their way under.
