How about a postmortem on this for those of us who were on an airplane and missed the game? The box score certainly makes it look like the 'Nova offensive glass was the difference (of course making 16 threes is ridiculous, but MD made almost half of theirs as well).

I think they had 19 threes. 19-40. Basically Nova shot a million threes and made half of them and half of the ones they missed bounced directly to a Nova player standing out by the free throw line. Vasquez and Milbourne never really got it going (Vasquez due to BS foul trouble). Although Nova was chucking threes the entire game somehow they managed to get to the line just as much as MD did. Basically MD just had the shitty luck of playing a team having a lucky night.
ReplyDeleteMosley is a fucking monster. The kid is sick. My preseason pick (after I saw him at midnight madness)was honorable mention for All-ACC. He is going to be 1st or 2nd team. Last year he had an ankle injury in the pre-season which I think was way more serious than anyone knew. He spent all summer working on his jump shot. He is SO athletic this year, to go with being strong as a Jackal, and now a sick mid range game and 3 point shot you have to respect. Not to mention he was already a sick defender. Dude is the fucking truth basically. When you think about it it makes sense. He is 2nd in scoring in MD high school basketball history. Bias, Dixon, Mello, Rudy Gay, Michael Beasley, the list goes on and on... pretty high company that he outscored...
It sucks because it was MDs last chance to get a good OOC win. That said they get Dino Gregory back this week which will only make them stronger inside and better on D. As long as they beat the teams the are supposed to beat before ACC play 9-7 in the league will have them dancing. I still expect 10+ ACC wins. I'm still bullish, although I think some MD 'fans' are ready to jump ship.
It should also be noted the Giants are awesome and BMR and I are awesome at getting awesome.
They were 16-39 (41%). MD was also 9-19, so that's why I said threes were less the issue than other factors, like rebounding & turnovers - they took 22 (42%!) more shots from the floor than you guys.

I was wondering why MD shot 53% from the floor but got dominated on the offensive boards, but that makes sense. There's nothing more annoying than forcing a tough three and then having them pick up a long rebound. Argh.
It's pretty ridiculous to think about jumping ship - Villanova, Cincinnati, and Wisconsin are not bad losses at all (all three will be ranked in the new rankings today), and all were pretty close. Meanwhile, you've pounded a fair number of the teams you've beaten, which is a good sign.
